Voices of Pride: Powerful Speeches from the White Rock Pride Flag Raising Ceremony, 2026
On Friday, July 17, 2026 the White Rock Pride Society’s Pride Flag Raising Ceremony brought community members together to celebrate diversity, inclusion and the importance of Pride in White Rock.
The ceremony was attended by local dignitaries, including White Rock Mayor Megan Knight, and featured powerful remarks from guest speakers Denise Darrell and Sevdin MacDonald. Each shared a meaningful perspective on Pride, community and the importance of continuing to create spaces where everyone feels welcomed, valued and free to be themselves.

White Rock Pride Week 2026 was once again an incredible celebration of our local 2SLGBTQ+ community, families and allies!
From our best-attended Pride Flag Raising Ceremony yet to the sold-out Friday Night Fever: Love Is Love Gala, this year’s Pride Week was filled with connection, joy, visibility and unforgettable moments.

What an unforgettable week in White Rock! From the soaring notes of “Bohemian Rhapsody” echoing over East Beach to rainbow flags waving proudly from every corner of our city, White Rock Pride Week 2025 was a joyful, vibrant celebration of love, inclusion, and community spirit.
A huge thank you goes out to everyone who came out to support, celebrate, perform, volunteer, and simply be present for what turned out to be one of the most heartwarming Pride Weeks yet.
Johnny D Trinhs Powerful Pride Flag Raising Ceremony Poem
On Friday, July 18, 2025 the City of White Rock hosted the annual Pride flag-raising ceremony to kick off White Rock Pride Week hosted by the White Rock Pride Society.
During the ceremony, Johnny D Trinh a community-engaged artist shared a powerful poem he wrote. The poem was a reflection on place and what resistance and liberation looks like today. Trinh grew up in a city much like White Rock in size and culture, and reflected on the journey so many folks take to leave for the “big city” because home never felt safe, and what it means when folks return to visit, rest, build a family.
