The White Rock Pride Society, in partnership with Peninsula United Church, is proud to present Pride Meets Faith: Voices of Love, a two-film festival exploring the intersections of faith, identity, love, and inclusion.
- Date: Saturday, January 17
- Time: Doors open 2:30. Film 1: 3:00 – 4:30. Film 2: 6:30 – 8:00pm. A 30-minute panel discussion will follow each film.
- Location: Earl Marriott Secondary – Wheelhouse Theatre (15751 16th Ave, free parking)
- Tickets: $10 per film or $15 for both.
Join us for an inspiring afternoon and evening of storytelling, reflection, and community conversation. Both screenings will be followed by 30-minute panel discussions featuring local voices of faith, advocacy, and lived experience. Complimentary pizza will be available for attendees between films for those staying to watch both.
FILM 1: Mama Bears: Faith, Family, and Advocacy (2022)

Duration: 91 minutes
Daresha Kyi’s inspiring documentary “Mama Bears” examines the profound spiritual journey undertaken by conservative Christian mothers confronted with the reality of their children’s true identities. Deeply rooted in faith, these women experience significant spiritual questioning and are compelled to re-examine their beliefs with the reality of their children’s true selves to choose love. The film closely follows their transformative process, revealing how these mothers move beyond long-held convictions to embrace and support their children.
Online virtual spaces become sources of encouragement and guidance, empowering the mothers to advocate for their children, fostering acceptance and inclusion within their own families and the wider community.

FILM 2: 1946: The Mistranslation That Shifted Culture (2022)
Director: Sharon Roggio

Screening: 6:30–8:00 PM, 30-minute panel discussion to follow
Duration: 92 minutes
“Through the personal lens of director Sharon ‘Rocky’ Roggio and her relationship with her evangelical pastor father, Pastor Sal Roggio, the film explores the origins of the word ‘homosexual’ in modern English Bibles. It traces this term to a 1946 mistranslation in the Revised Standard Version and examines its profound effect on Christian perspectives toward LGBTQIA+ individuals. This documentary highlights the efforts of faith leaders, scholars, and activists challenging damaging interpretations and advocating for full inclusion of the Pride Community, Faith expression and society at large.”
